Read-only referentials¶
The Sales module shows products, categories, taxes, payment modes and measure units — but it does not own them. It reads them. This page says who holds what, and what really is decided inside Sales.
What Sales only reads¶

These screens offer no creation, no edition, no deletion. A payment mode reads there with its Name, its Type and its Active state; a tax with its Type, its Name, its Short name and its Rate; a unit with its Type, its Short name and its Full name.
The identity of a product — name, category, nature, internal reference, bar code, packaging, description — reads the same way: the product record shows it, it does not write it.
A missing value is corrected at the source
A payment mode absent from the settlements, a tax nowhere to be found on a product, a product that does not come up in the search: the fix is made in the module or the platform that owns the referential, never in Sales.
What stays managed in Sales¶
Everything that belongs to trade rather than to identity belongs to the module and is written here:

The SALES.PRODUCT.WRITE right is wider than what the screens offer
The catalog of the permissions describes that right as the management of the products, of their categories and of their sale prices. In the current screens it only opens, in fact, the pricing, the taxes, the reductions and the prices of a product: the products and the categories themselves stay read-only, wherever you look at them.
